Nice Guy Syndrome

Nice guy syndrome refers to a pattern of behavior where an individual outwardly presents themselves as kind and considerate, often with the expectation of receiving validation or affection in return.

What is the problem?

Your partner will never know what your true expectations are, and thus could never take the necessary action on their side to fulfill those expectations. The result is miscommunication and often leads to resentment. This incremental buildup of resentment explodes when a "big fight" occurs, thus usually escalating a simple misunderstanding to a severe fight.

Remedies

Learn how to negotiate. Express clearly what are your expectations, hear what they have to say about it, and then you can both agree on something acceptable for both parties. Improving your communication skills is the key to improving this situation.
